Working Alongside Your Spouse in Franchise Ownership
Updated: 3 hours ago

For 15+ years my wife and I owned and operated our franchise businesses together.
The question we heard most:
“How often do you fight? How hard is it to be in business with your spouse?”
We didn’t fight. We got along better.
We had different skill sets and almost no overlap. She was great with customers, payroll, and keeping employees and customers happy, including the angry ones.
I handled marketing, operations management, and the numbers.
We believed in the same things and stayed on the same page when challenges came up.
When it was time to sign another 10-year agreement, we both knew it was time for something new. Being aligned and prepared to make that big of a decision was important as well.
If you’re considering going into business with your spouse, the question isn’t whether you’ll fight. It’s whether you complement each other and want the same things.
